2007 Trans-European Platform for Knowledge Intensive Services for Information and Communication Technologies

TEIPKIS-ICT
Trans-European Platform for Knowledge Intensive Services for Information and Communication Technologies

The goal is to create a KIS-Platform in support of innovation in services geared towards the specific needs of fast growing young enterprises. The KIS-Platform can be considered as a laboratory for better innovation policies. Existing tools and instruments in support of innovative enterprises are too much fragmented and lack clear focus on potential fast growing enterprises, which present the most interesting segment for job creation and innovation. Further specialisation and consolidation in provision of business services in support of innovation is needed to better valorise knowledge and exploit entrepreneurial talents. TEIPKIS-ICT will focus on: Photonics/Optics; Automotive; Energy/Eco-Innovation; Satellite

TEIPKIS-ICT will integrate knowledge intensive service activities in the above sectors, thus addressing the linkages between manufacturing and services. Focus will be on KIS enterprises which are integral producers/users of new technologies. For this project, knowledge intensive services are defined as economic activities conducted by private sector organisations that combine technology, knowledge (such as R&D) and highly skilled employees to provide a service to the market.

The TEIPKIS-ICT Platform aims to foster technological as well as non-technological innovation (organisational innovation) in services, taking into account the dynamic interconnections between research, skills, entrepreneurship, finance and clusters. Investors currently don’t seem to have easy access to European pool of talents (deal-flow) and
mainly operate in a local or regional environment. As a result, average funding of innovative startups in Europe is much lower than in the US, where major innovation hubs exist that facilitate smart international innovators and investors to easily find each other. The TEIPKIS-ICT platform will be an important step to change this situation, making accessible training not only specific to the ICT domain but also in leadership and entrepreneurship.
